Developmental International Program Athletes Take Part in Skate San Francisco
(9/3/10) - Approximately 40 of U.S. Figure Skating's top up-and-coming athletes competed last weekend at 2010 Skate San Francisco as part of the Developmental International Program. The competition took place at the Yerba Buena Ice Skating Center in San Francisco, Calif.
The Athlete Development Committee (ADC) invited all the novice competitors from the 2010 AT&T U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the top five intermediate finishers in all four disciplines at the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Junior Championships to participate in Skate San Francisco.
The goal of the Developmental International Program is to introduce to skaters the experience of traveling to international competitions as part of Team USA. Each skater roomed with another skater in the program, and team leaders were available at the hotel, rink and in between. Skaters were encouraged to wear their team jackets and cheer on their fellow Developmental Team members throughout the competition.
"Skate San Francisco was phenomenal to us in providing support for the skaters in our program," said Ben Miller, Athlete Development Committee chair. "The skaters were able to receive wonderful critiques and thoughtful feedback from many top officials. It was a treat getting to see so many of our country's developing skaters so early in the season."
